A beginner Linux course: command line, file systems, permissions, processes and packages. Lessons run in sequence and each ends with a task you type and have checked in the browser. Later sections reach the kernel. Free, with no registration and no lesson counter.
Pros & cons
Pros
- Short lessons with the check answered right in the browser
- One continuous route from the command line up to the kernel
- Free, and no account is needed to work through it
Cons
- The interface is English only
- The checker reads the command you typed, not whether you understood it
- It covers Linux usage rather than security, so it cannot stand in for a lab
Who it fits
Fits someone moving from Windows to Linux and starting from zero. It teaches command basics and nothing about defence, so treat it as the floor under whatever you practise on next.
Getting started
- Finish the command line section without jumping to the later lessons
- Type the commands by hand: the check reads the string you enter
- Carry on to permissions and processes, that is where the system starts
History
The project lived on its own linuxjourney.com domain for years; that address now redirects to labex.io/linuxjourney, so it sits inside the LabEx catalogue. The older lessons came across intact and new sections appear as part of LabEx. No lesson counter is published. Checked.
